TAROM, the national carrier of Romania, today announced the selection of aviation IT specialist SITA's Flight Operations solution to enable the airline to maximise feeder and connection opportunities across the 905 destination Skyteam network, which it is due to join later this year.

TAROM, which currently serves 48 destinations with 24 aircraft and 600 crew members, will use the full suite of SITA Flight Operations including: FleetWatch (Operations control), CrewWatch (Crew Management), FleetPlan (Schedule Management) and FleetPlan Max (Network Planning and Schedule Optimization) to manage schedules, aircraft and crew. This integrated approach will not only reduce costs but will enable the airline to exploit connection opportunities with other partners and alliance members.

This suite of solutions interfaces with the SITA products which TAROM uses including SITA Aircom and Revenue Management and other third-party software such as SAP payroll and financial systems.

Ruxandra Brutaru, CEO, TAROM said: "The deployment of this integrated Flight Operations solution will enable us to maximise our schedules, crew and fleet, thereby reducing our costs but importantly allowing us to make faster and more informed decisions. With this increased automation we can effectively align our schedules and resources to maximise our revenue-generating opportunities across the airline and our partners' networks."

Toby Tucker, Director Flight Operations, SITA, said: "TAROM senior management can now receive faster and more frequent iterations of schedules and associated crews, which will allow them to take advantage of opportunities to improve revenue and reduce costs, for example, through such processes as Tactical Re-Fleeting. Such improved decision-support tools are also offered with our automated crew pairing and tracking, and daily operations control solutions, which guarantee the right decision is made when dealing with breaks to the schedule that inevitably occur."

In May 2008, SkyTeam signed a SkyTeam Alliance Associate Adherence Agreement with TAROM which demonstrates the high level standards and passenger services quality the airline has achieved for joining the alliance. In 2008 TAROM, which is the flag carrier airline of Romania, carried 1.79 million passengers, a 5% increase over the previous year.
